Well, it has been a very busy couple of weeks with our son's wedding and Jake being home for vacation.  Time to get caught up.

Gino's cremains came home November 1st, and I interred them in the memorial urn that I bought for him.  Our wonderful veterinary staff presented us with a beautiful plaque in Gino's memory as well.  Their thoughtfulness is appreciated more than they know.

The local newspaper, The White Mountain Independent, ran a two part story about what happened to Gino.  The second part of the story was a response from the city and county officials.  I was surprised to see them admit some culpability in Gino's death, though it is obvious that Huser is going to continue to be dishonest about the county's scanner.  If I did this correctly, you should be able to read the two articles below:

In other, extremely ironic news...my son had my Great Dane out of the dog yard and wasn't paying attention to her while he was working.  Peanut (my Dane), upon seeing the dogs on the property across the road...yes, the same yard where the dog went  after I ran it off the day Gino went missing...well, she ran across the road and got into a fight with those dogs.  Bear in mind, these two large dogs have come to our property and provoked or fought with our dogs several times over the past year.  I don't get excited about it...dogs will be dogs.  I just run them back home and let it go.

So, the neighbor dog's owner, apparently had a brain fart and tried to break up these huge dogs while they were fighting.  Yes, she got bit.  My son ran over to help, and offered to call paramedics for her. Her original story to my son was that she wasn't sure which fighting dog bit her...but after a visit to the doctor, and a complaint to animal control...she is now "positive" that Peanut bit her.  She is now looking to hit the ghetto lottery.

Life is ironic.  The animal control officer that responded, and subsequently wrote me a big, fat ticket for "dog at large" was Josh Smith, the same animal control officer that impounded Gino on October 6th and failed to properly scan him.
